Shiro Shirahata, born in Hirosato/Otsuki, Japan, in 1933, has gained universal praise for his brilliant, inspiring and awesome mountain portrait photography. Shiro Shirahata's professional excellence covers almost all continents. He has published numerous books on mountain photography, some of them translated into as many as seven languages, portraying the Japan Alps, the European Alps, the Rocky Mountains, Nepal Himalaya, Karakoram, and South Korea. Shiro Shirahata has participated in a large number of photographic and mountaineering expeditions to remote areas reaching 8000 m on Makalu.
