EXTRACTS FROM THE ARTICLES OF ASSOCIATION
Article 1 Under the name The King Albert I Memorial Foundation a foundation of unlimited duration is registered in Zürich in accordance with Articles 80 ff. of the Swiss Civil Code.

The Board of Trustees may move the registered office of the Foundation to another part of Switzerland. With the approval of His late Royal Highness, King Baudouin of the Belgians, the Foundation was established as a memorial to the mountaineer Albert I, King of the Belgians, who was accidentally killed in 1934 when climbing alone in the rocks of Marche-les-Dames in the valley of the Meuse..

Article 2 The Foundation is subject to supervision by the Federal Government (Department of the Interior of the Swiss Federation).

Article 3 The aim of the Foundation is to honour persons or institutions that have acquired through exceptional and lasting achievements outstanding merits in a field directly or indirectly related to the Mountain World.
The Award consists of the King Albert Gold Medal of Merit and an accompanying Certificate.
So long as the Foundation retains its capital at a minimum of one million Swiss Francs, it may, in addition, sponsor individuals or institutions in the Mountain World dedicated to scientific projects, accident prevention and environmental preservation.
